Domain 1: Planning and Preparation
1a: Demonstrating Knowledge of Content & Pedagogy
Through the diversity of standards, textbooks, and educational resources, I use these texts to guide and inform my practice as a dance educator. I am able to guide myself towards practice in teaching a wide range of students socially, culturally, emotionally, and developmentally. These resources deepened my understanding of how to teach and create a variety of units and lessons most effectively for each learner in my classroom.

1b: Demonstrating Knowledge of Students
As a dance educator, I am aware of the variety and differences in student's identities and learning processes in my classroom. I want to ensure that I know about my students and the knowledge/ experiences they come into my classroom with. The documents below this text encompass knowledge about the school culture as well as an opportunity to learn about my student's prior knowledge to inform my teaching of my EdTPA unit.
1c: Setting Instructional Outcomes & 1e Designing Coherent Instruction
Teaching involves a thoughtful process of planning a lesson. I drive my lessons through self-created measurable objectives that align with state/national standards and the TCHS curriculum
Below is an example of...
-
EdTPA day 1 lesson plan
-
Clearly designed Powerpoint lesson instructing students through understanding and creating an improvisation score. The lesson is best sequenced through instructional/visual supports to help engage student learning.
1f: Designing Student Assessment
Both formative and summative assessments are intentionally designed to provide evidence of student learning. Students were guided towards this summative assessment which combines content learned in Ballet and Anatomy & Kinesiology units. Included a combination of written and performance work from each student along with the National Core Arts Standards addressed in this assessment.
