A Dancer In Motion

Artist Statement

I am a MOVER.  Ever since I was young, dance has encompassed my life to help me grow and understand myself not only as a performer but as a person as well. It has become an emotional and physical language. Dance has always been there and through its lens, I have grown to understand my being, along with my artistry. My time as a student, especially in college, has allowed me the space to find my artistic voice, both in interpreting movement and in creating it. I strongly believe in the power of movement; and its ability to educate, and advocate within our communities. It is a voice for and to those who are, have been, and continue to be silent/silenced.

As a dancer and choreographer, I believe the art form can manifest into an awareness of feelings through our bodies. Dance has the ability to create a myriad of emotions, which is portrayed in the video reel below, in which a dancer can process and analyze with ease. Between performing and exploring different genres, I believe that dance is an art form that can unify the mind, body, and soul. The collectiveness of these three identities is how dancers are able to perceive their emotions so well.

My hope for myself is to continue to decrease the self-doubt and fear that comes with being an artist in a competitive field.
